Alix Timmer is a respected Haitian music promoter, entrepreneur, cultural figure, and former soccer player whose work has made an important contribution to the development and promotion of Haitian music in the United States, particularly in the South Florida Haitian community.
Born and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Alix Timmer developed an early passion for both music and soccer. As a teenager, he recalls watching the legendary founder of Compas Direct, Nemours Jean-Baptiste, perform in Haiti—an experience that helped inspire his lifelong connection to Haitian music.
After immigrating to the United States, Timmer lived in New York from approximately 1970 to 1992, where he gained valuable experience in the music industry. During that period, he worked with renowned record producer Fred Paul and became involved in the promotion and distribution of Haitian music. His experiences in New York helped prepare him for what would become a major role in the Haitian entertainment industry.
In 1992, Alix Timmer moved to South Florida. Two years later, in 1994, he established Maxi Sound Music Hall, which became one of the most recognizable gathering places for Haitian music lovers in Miami. The business combined a record store, ticket outlet, entertainment center, and soccer gathering place, creating a unique cultural space for the Haitian diaspora.
Through MaxiSound, Timmer became one of the most influential Haitian music promoters in South Florida. During the 1990s, MaxiSound earned a reputation for successfully organizing and promoting concerts and dance events featuring some of the most important names and groups in Haitian music, including System Band, Skah Shah #1, Top Vice, Missile 727, Coupé Cloué, Tabou Combo, and Digital Express.
Alix Timmer also played an important role in supporting emerging Haitian musical groups and organizing major cultural events. One of his notable achievements was the 2005 celebration of the 50th anniversary of Compas Direct, honoring the legacy of Nemours Jean-Baptiste and bringing together musicians, music lovers, and members of the Jean-Baptiste family in South Florida.
Beyond his work as a promoter, Timmer has remained connected to artists and the Haitian music industry through management and event production. He has served as a manager and supporter of musicians, including connections with System Band and Freddy of Top Vice, while continuing to lend his experience to cultural and entertainment events.
